THE SYRACUSE MUSIC FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE PROGRAMS OF THE EIGHTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL, AND HEREWITH PRESENTS THEM TO ITS MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC ITH much satisfaction the Directors herewith present the programs of the Eighth Music Festival. In the autumn of 1907, at the time when in the usual course of events they would have been preparing for the 1908 Festival, the general büsiness conditions did not prom- ise favorably for a successful season, and they were therefore obliged to abandon plans for that season. When the time arrived to consider plans for the present season the unique opportunity was presented to obtain the Services of the Dresden Philharmonie Orchestra under the distinguished leadership of Mr. Willy Olsen, supported by a group of talented artists who are eminently quali- fied to respond to the demands of the program. The Directors therefore arranged for the first appearance of the orchestra with chorus in the United States. Much care has been expended in the preparation of the programs, which follow the general scheme heretofore adopted and favor ably received. The opera “ Aida ” is always interesting and entertaining. It will appeal to that portion of the public which cares more for the operatic music than for some other forms. The miscellaneous program is intended to meet the taste of another part of the public, which delights in a large number of shorter works rendered by eminent artists. The more serious work will satisfy those who prefer music of the oratorio character to that which is in lighter vein. Then the Pianist and Violinist will be most appreciated by that frac- tion of the public which is particularly attracted by instrumental music. The Directors have exerted themselves to the utmost to secure the Services of the artists best qualified to present the several works. They feel that they have been successful. The Chorus, our home product, is confidently expected to give a good account of itself in its work, which is difficult and exacting.
