Symposium on Tuesday, 27 June 2023 Jewish Life in the Past, Present and Future A historian and a representative of the Jewish community from Leipzig as well as from Leipzig's twin cities Brno, Krakow and Kyjiv will each report on their specific experiences and will be available for discussion. In additi- on, Class 9a of 20th High school from Leipzig-Schönefeld, will present the results of their examination of the topic. The questions the presenters will address are: How was anti-Semitism and everyday racism dealt with in the past and howtoday? Is a culture of com- munication or confrontation practiced in the respective city? An outline will be given of the authoritative traditions and particularities of Jewish history in the respective city, as well as of the institutions and formats of their mediation and cultivation that exist today. Each historian will report on the general perception of the topic and communal activities, including existing or planned cultural and educational programs. The community representative will describe the religious and also emotional side of the experiences and activities. Where available, an impression of cross-town or cross-religious networking formats will also be provided. All that will be supplemented by the presentation of the students' projects dealing with the topic „Jewish life and everyday racism in the past and present". A moderated panel discussion with a representative from each of the parti- cipating cities will take place at the end of the Symposium. The lectures will be held in German or English. Simultaneous Interpreters are available. The Symposium is aimed at all institutions and organisations based in Leip zig that deal with Jewish life, anti-Semitism, exclusion and racism, as well as the interested public. Follow-up projects are expressly encouraged. The day will be rounded off at 7 p.m. with a concert by jazz singer and globetrotter Karolina Trybala and Mateusz Tadeusz Dudek, a virtuoso of the Polish accordion scene. They present the most beautiful Jewish songs and Klezmer melodies between Krakow and Leipzig. Passionate, virtuosic, authentic - two exceptional artists in intimate conversation.
