The variety of Jewish music, both from the synagogue and populär songs in Yiddish, from Renaissance motets to the crude drinking songs, will be presented by the Leipziger Synagogalchor along with Falk Hoffmann (tenor), and Tilmann Löser (piano). The concert provides an insight into the diversity of Jewish music: We present masterpieces of choral music from the Synagogues of Vienna via Leipzig to Odessa, as well as Yiddish and Hebrew songs in arrangements created especially for the Leipziger Synagogalchor, from a tender lullaby to a not too serious homage of alcohol as a helper in many situations. LEIPZIGER SYNAGOGALCHOR The Leipziger Synagogalchor (Leipzig Synagogal Choir) is the only German ensemble that specialises exclusively in Jewish choral music in all its facets. Since 1962 the choir has brought back masterpieces of the synagogue to regulär performances again, which is a repertoire that was almost extinguished during the Nazi regime. Yiddish songs in virtuoso and artful arrangements are another part of this choir's repertoire, and these songs are very populär with audiences. In an acclaimed tour of Israel in November 2017 and from numerous concerts in Germany, other European countries, South Africa, Brazil and the United States, the choir has gained a briIliant reputation as an excellent and warmly received ensemble. Awards such as the Arts Prize of the City of Leipzig, the Star of Friendship in Gold, and last but not least, the 2017 Obermayer German Jewish History Award all testify to the Charisma and ambassadorial abilities of the ensemble for international and interreligious dialogue. Ludwig Böhme has been the Leipzig Synagogal Choir's Artistic Director since 2012. Böhme, who was formerly a member of the Leipzig Thomaner Choir, studied choir conducting. He directs the chamber choir Josquin des Prez, is the founder of and a baritone in the Calmus Ensemble and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. www.synagogalchor-leipzig.de
