The Leipziger Synagogalchor is the only German ensemble that specializes exclusi- vely in Jewish choral music in all its facets. It was founded in 1962 by chief cantor Werner Sander with the aim of resurrecting the Jewish music that had been silenced by the Holocaust. In 1972 Helmut Klotz took over the artistic direction of the non-Jewish amateur choir. Since 2012 Ludwig Böhme has held this function. In its long-standing existence, the Leipziger Synagogalchor has developed into a concert choir that is highly respected in Germany and abroad. He is dedicated to the performance of synagogue music, especially in the Ashkenazic area of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Even works of the Renaissance belong to the extensive repertoire. Traditional Yiddish and Hebrew songs are sung by the choir in concertante arrangements. Some of them were published on the CD "Lidl fun gol denem land" (querstand 2016). Concert tours have taken the choir to Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Great Britain, Ukraine, the USA, Brazil, South Africa and three times to Israel. Exceptional projects were developed by the choir with the dancer Anna Natt, the klezmer ensemble Rozhinkes, the ensemble Sarband and the Kammerchor Josquin des Präz. Together with the Kammerchor and renowned musicians the choir has produced the CD "Klingende Toleranz" (Resounding Tolerance, querstand 2019), the reconstruction of a historical synago gue concert of 1926. The work of the choir in concerts and projects, as well as at festivals, cultural days and commemorative events in Cooperation with diverse Jewish and non-Jewish Partners fulfills the task and concerns of remembering and actively cultivating the repressed musical Jewish heritage. In 2017, the choir received the distinguished Service award of the Obermayer German Jewish History Awards. The ensemble is a member of the network "Tolerant Saxony." Anja Pöche was born in Leipzig. From 1986 to 1997 she was a member of the MDR Kinderchor. In 2003 she was among the prize winners of the national „Jugend musi ziert" competition. She studied singing and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Theater Leipzig. Since the successful completion of her studies in 2010 she also teaches singing. Anja Pöche joined the renowned and multiple awarded vocal group Calmus Ensemble as soprano in 2001. In 2009 she, together with her four male collegues, won an ECHO Klassik award in the category „Klassik ohne Grenzen. " Besides the concerts with Calmus in Europe and North and South America, she sings regularly as a soloist in oratorio and cantata concerts in Germany, Ireland (Kilkenny Arts Festival, Camerata Kilkenny with Maya Homburger), Switzerland (Musikfestival Davos, Boswiler Sommer, Camerata Zürich), and UK (Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival). A particular emphasis of her repertoire is the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries. Since 2014 she sings on occasion as a soloist with the Leipziger Synagogalchor. Philipp Goldmann is a baritone and choirmaster. He was a member of the Thomaner chor Leipzig and studied singing and choral conducting in Leipzig and Oslo. As a baritone, Philipp Goldmann is in demand above all in the field of oratorio works. He regularly works with renowned ensembles such as the MDR Rundfunkchor, the Amsterdam Baroque Choir, the Lautten Compagney Berlin, the Bach Consort Leipzig as well as arsys bourgogne. Since 2015, Goldmann has been the artistic director of the Denkmalchor Leipzig, one of Leipzig's most distinguished choirs. In addition, Goldmann acts as Initiator and Organizer of choir and ensemble projects. From 2002 to 2018 Philipp Goldmann was a member and the artistic director of the men's vocal quartet Ensemble Thios Omilos. Concert tours led the group to China, Taiwan, Austria, Italy, France, Finland and Switzerland. The ensemble released two CDs and won numerous prizes at major international competitions. Goldmann teaches classi- cal singing at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and teaches choir and orchestra conducting at the Protestant College for Church Music Halle. Since 2018 he sings on occasion as a soloist with the Leipziger Synagogalchor.
