M Born in Paris to a musical family Michel Plasson started to study the piano with Lazare Levy and graduated with a first prize from the Paris Conservatoire, where he studied percussion and orchestra conducting. In 1962 he received the first prize at the Besangon International Competition and the following year, on the advice of Charles Munch, he went to the United States, where he worked with Leinsdorf, Monteux and Stokowski. After his return to France in 1965 he was appointed to Metz as musical director. In 1968 he became the permanent conductor of the Capitole de Toulouse Orchestra and Opera, of which he shortly after wards became musical director and, in 1973 artistic director of the same. In 1974 he converted the old grain market into a 3000 seating capacity concert hall which became the permanent hall of the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse. Toulouse became a real international music centre following Jorge Lavelli production of Fidelio in this building in 1977, and Michel Plasson, in addition to Symphonie concerts, conducted such operas as Aida, Meistersingers, Carmen, Salome, Faust, Parsifal and Nabucco. In 1980 the orchestra was entrusted with the new name of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. In 1984 Plasson conducted Aida at the Omnisport hall at Paris-Bercy which attracted 200,000 spectators in 16 performances and repeated the same for Turandot (21 performances) and Nabucco (16 performances) in 1985. Michel Plasson has also encouraged the development of French music by commissioning new works which he has premiered with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. French classical and Contemporary works, as well as some less known French Composers, have became universally known through his recordings with the Orchestra for EMI and Deutsche Grammophon. For his efforts in the development of music he was recently nominated as The Conductor of The Year, and his recording with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse of Massenet’s Don Quixote was awarded “The Best Opera Recording of the Year”. Michel Plasson has also conducted orchestras and operas in Paris, Berlin, London, New York, Vienna, Munich, Hamburg, Zürich, Leipzig, Washington, Chicago, Dresden, Tokyo and San Francisco. In 1994 he was appointed music director of the Dresden Philharmonie Orchestra, with which he has been collaborating for many years as guest conductor. In 1990 Michel Plasson received the prestigious Florence Gould Award and, in 1992 he became “Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres” awarded by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, as well as “Officier de la Legion d’Honneur”. Alti yafinda, ünlü piyanist Martha Argerich’in de ögretmeni olan Vincenzo Scaramuzza ile egitim görmeye bafladi. Yedi yafinda gocuk felcine yakalanarak bir yil yatmak zorunda kalmasina karfin piyano galifmalarim sürdürdü. 19 yafinda Fransiz Hükümeti’nin bursuyla Paris’e geldi ve Marguerite Long ile galifmaya bafladi. Marguerite Long Piyano Yarifmasi’nda aldigi ügüncülük ödülünden sonra uluslararasi müzik kariyerine baflayan sanatgi, resitallerinin yanisira Ansermet, Kempe, Leitner, Szell ve Krips gibi, o dönemin ünlü fefleri yönetimindeki orkestralar efliginde konserler verdi. Bruno Gelber’in gelecegin önemli piyanistlerinden biri olacagmi gören Arthur Rubinstein onu, kendisiyle birlikte Reichenbach’in filminde rol almasi igin segti. Bruno Gelber EMI firmasi igin doldurdugu Schumann, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Liszt ve Brahms’in eserlerini igeren birgok resital plaginm yanisira Beethoven’in ügüncü ve befind kongertolari ile Brahms’in birinci ve ikinci kongertolarinm kaydim yapti. Beethoven’in tüm piyano sonatlarim Denon igin doldurdu. Bu plaklar igin Plak Büyük Ödülü, Plak Dostlari Ödülü ile, iki kez de Charles Cross Akademi Büyük Ödülü’nü kazandi. En az kirk ülkede, ikibinden fazla konser veren sanatgi, Berlin ve New York Filarmoni, Tokyo NHK, Fransiz Ulusal, Philadelphia ve Cleveland gibi ünlü orkestralarin yanisira Dresden Filarmoni Orkestrasi ile ilk kez 1971 ’de, daha sonra da 1976 ve I992’da galdi. Uluslararasi Istanbul Festivali’nin yanisira Salzburg, Aix-en- Provence, Lucerne, Zürih, Granada gibi müzik festivallerine katildi. ■ Born in Argentina to a family of Austrian, French and Italian origin Bruno Leonardo Gelber started to play the piano at the age of three and gave his first concert in his native country when he was only five. At the age of six he started to study with Vincenzo Scaramuzza who was also the teacher of the well known pianist Martha Argerich. Although he was confined to bed for one year for poliomyelitis he eagerly continued practising his piano. At the age of nineteen Bruno Gelber went to Paris on a scholarship given by the French government and began his studies with Marguerite Long. He started a successful international career after receiving the third prize at the Marguerite Long Piano Competition and, besides his recitals, he played as soloist with orchestras under renowned conductor such as Ansermet, Kempe,
