About the Artists Philippe ENTREMONTis in- ternationally re- nowned as an artist of remark- able technique and style, bothat the keyboard and on the po- dium. Lifetime Music Director of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Entremont assumed the post of Princi pal Conductor of the Netherlands Cham ber Orchestra in January 1993. Last season, Maestro Entremont ap- peared with the New York Philharmonie as the piano soloist for Bernstein's Sym- phony No. 2, as part of the orchestra's 150th-anniversary season celebration. Mr. Entremont gave the world premiere of the final Version of the work under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. In 1993-94, Philippe Entremont opened the Dallas Symphony's season as conductor and soloist, performed a month-long engagement with Tokyo's NHK Symphony as well as two solo re- cital appearances, and leads the Dresden Philharmonie in its first American tour. Mr. Entremont's latest recordings are volumes three and four of a four-disc set of the complete Mozart piano sonatas on the Pro Arte label and five Haydn sym- phonies on the Harmonia Mundi label. Among his other releases are re-issues by Sony Classical of his Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saens discs. A native of Rheims, France, Philippe Entremont entered the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 12 to study under Jean Doyen. He made his Profes sional debut at 16 in Barcelona and his American debut in 1953, in Washington, DC and New York. Since then, he has appeared on five continents, both as guest artist with the finest orchestras and as recitalist. He has conducted such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonie, l'Orchestre National de France, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Vienna Symphony, the National Or chestra of Spain, and Rome's Santa Cecilia Orchestra, as well as the orches tras of Philadelphia, Saint Louis, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh, San Fran cisco, Houston, and Montreal. Former president of the Ravel Acad emy in St. Jean-de-Luz, Mr. Entremont has been the recipient of many honors, including the Grand Prix du Disque, the Netherlands' Edison Award, and a Grammy nomination. A Knight of the Legion d'Honneur, he was recently awarded Austria's First Class Cross of Honor for the Arts and Sciences. At the forefront of today'syoung violin virtuosos, Cho-Liang Lin has won ova- tionsaround the world for his dazzling tech nique and beauty and nu- ance of tone. Mr. Lin's 1993-94 season is highlighted by a 14- city American tour with the Dresden Philharmonie, appearances with the Bournemouth Symphony at Avery Fisher Hall, and tours of the United Kingdom with the Royal Philharmonie Orchestra and the Bergen Philharmonie. Orches tral performances include appearances with the Toronto Symphony, the Na tional Arts Centre Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, and, in Europe, or chestras in Finland, Belgium, and Mo naco. Mr. Lin undertakes another Far East tour, which includes performances with the Japan Philharmonie and NHK Symphony, and recitals in Korea and Taiwan.
