Carter Brey came to international prominence in 1981 when he tooka prize in the first Rostropovich International Cello Competition. Mr. Brey's New York and Washington recital debuts followed in 1982 after his victory in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, ln the fall of 1990 he was featured in a concert with cellist Yo-Yo Ma at Avery Fisher Hall that was broadcast nation- wide on PBS's Live from Lincoln Center. Mr. Brey received his training at the Peabody Institute, where he studied with Laurence Lesser and Stephen Rates, and later with Aldo Parisot at Yale University, where he was a Wardwell Fellow and a Houpt Scholar. At the age of 27 he led one of Europe's premier vocal ensembles, the Leipziger Rundfunkchor. At 33 he became the Chief Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonie, and when he was 37 he was made General Music Director of the Orchestra in recognition of his talent. Jörg-Peter Weigle was born in Greifswald and was a member of the Leipzig Thomanerchor under the direc- tion of Erhard Mauersberger from 1963 to 1971. He received his musical training at the Hanns Eisler College of Music in Berlin, where he studied with Horst Förster, the composer Ruth Zechlin, and Dietrich Knothe, the chief conductor of the Rundfunkchor and director of the Berlin Singakadamie. After three years as a conductor in Neubrandenburg, Mae stro Weigle became leader of the Leipzig Radio Choir in 1980 and chief conductor of that ensemble in 1985. The high Standards of his choral preparation for many recordings and radio productions of choral works and operas, under such conductors as Colin Davis, Neville Marriner, Kurt Masur, Peter Schreier, and others, have earned him a wide reputation. Jörg-Peter Weigle continues his recording work with the Dresden Philharmonie. In addition to his activity in Dresden, he makes several guestconductingappearanceseach year in Germany and abroad.
