PROFESSOR HEINZ BONGARTZ Eorn on 31st July 1894 in Krefeld/Rhineland. Bongan Elly Ney, Dr. Otto Neitzel. After graduatlng from the Krefeld Conse-rvatorium, Heinz studied conducting under Fritz Steinbach, piano under professor and composition under He was appointed director of the Duren School of Music and conductor of the city choir after the World War I. In 1922 he took over the direction of the Duren City Theater. In 1924 the Berlin Symphony Orchestra brought the young conductor to Berlin and he worked there with Oskar Fried until 1926, when he was chosen for the post of senior conductor of the Meiningen Provinicial Orchestra. He also had many successes as guest conductor in Berlin, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Leipzig and Vienna. At the end of the World War II, Bongartz devoted himself to com position. Following successful concerts in Weimar and in the Leipzig Gewandhaus, he was appointed head of the conductors’ classes and of the School of Opera at the Leipzig College of Music. Professor Bongartz took over the Dresden Philharmonie Orchestra May 1947.
