Henrik Willy Olsen I1J ENRIK WILLY OLSEN was born in Denmark in 1867 and received his musical education in the High School of Music, Germany. While quite a young man, during the years 1887-1890, he rnade successful concert tours as violin virtuoso through Scandinavia, Finland, Russia and Switzerland. After this he accepted an engagement in Zürich as First Concert Master and in 1900 he went in this capacity to Dresden in the Philharmonie and Royal Belvedere Orchestra, one of the most important orchestral appointments in Germany. Since his selection as Kappelmeister, Olsen has taken his Orchestra on exten sive concert tours in Germany with great success; and two years ago on a tournee through Scandinavia, which rcsulted in a great musical triumph for the Orchestra and its director. Mr. Olsen under the most trying and difficult conditions always proves himself master of the occasion, and the Orchestra well merits the high reputation it sustains. THE DRESDEN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA ls maintained at Dresden, which, as the seat of the famous “Royal Music School,” one of the most important institutions of its kind in Europe, has attracted many eminent musicians, who have left a distinct imprint upon the musical life of the city. Arnong these both Schumann and Wagner have had a hand in the formation of what is now known as the Dresden Philharmonie and Rojml Belvedere Orchestra, a musical Organization that sustains the highest Standard of excellence in both classic and modern orchestral music. Its musicians are all of the highest rank in their particular lines. Many of them have played in this Orchestra all their lives, which largely accounts for the beauty and smoothness of the orchestral effects commented on by their musical critics.
