Mr. Frederick Hastings Baritone AT R. FREDERICK HASTINGS, the noted American baritone, was born in Boston, Mass., August 9, 1878. His musical nature was developed early, for at the age of five years be had mastered a repertoire of five songs and was able to a act as his own accompanist on the piano. Later he began vocal study with F. E. Morse and B. J. Lang, the well-known Boston teachers, and at the age of seventeen years he held a responsible Position in a church quartette and began singing in concerts and oratorios. Journeying to Italy and Germany, the young singer continued his studies abroad as the pupil of Signor Bimboini, of Florence, and later he returned to Boston to fäll many engagements with choral societies all over the eastern and northeastern States, and assisted by prominent artists, for several years gave an annual spring recital in Steinert Hall, Boston. Hastings’ voice is a most beautiful natural baritone, and he sings with great dramatic effect, particularly the operatic arias. The German songs he renders in a spirit equal to the best work of a native minstrel of the Fatherland, and as an oratorio singer he is looked upon by the highest authorities as the best young artist now before the public.
