African Memoranda. Note foe seamer. The erroneous position of the islands of Bissegos and Man- tere (as placed in the African Pilot) have already been noticed in my Journal when I went to Ghinala, though I knew not where to place them myself; being able to affirm only where they are not, but not where they are. It is impossible, therefore^ for me to give any directions for sailing up the Bijuga channel; but I have collected in Appendix, No. 17, all those extracts from the Hankey’s log, from that ship’s making the land until her anchoring at the mouth of the Grande, which can be of the least possible use to any person bound up the same channel hereafter.
