Continent of South America. 1. In the Spanilh dominions in South America,, there are many volcanoes, and feveral of them in a ftate of adtivity. The moft northern is that of Velez, in the province of New Granada, fituated in-lat. 6° S. long. 305°; and the moft fouthern are thofe in the province of Chili, in lat. 51S long. 307°. it I/lands on the Wejl and Eajl Coajls of America, and in the Pacific Ocean. 1. According to Tooke, there are volcanoes in fome of the Fox lflands, viz. in Unimak,. Una- lafhka, Umnak, Goreloi, and one on each of the neighbouring iflands Kanaga and Tatavanga. 2. Cook obferved a volcano in one of Queen Charlotte’s Illands, and another in one of the New Hebrides. 3. Cook obferved three volcanoes in the Friendly Illands. 4. Two volcanoes have been obferved in Fire- land, at the fouthern extremity of South America. 5. There are volcanoes in the iflands of St Chriftopher, Nevis, Guadaloupe, Dominica, and St Vincent, in the Weft; Indies. The
