FLINT GENUS. Its chara&eriftic fracture is even; fome varieties run into fmall and fine fplintery; others, very rarely* into flat conchoidal. Fragments indeterminately angular, more or lefs fharp edged. It is intermediate between tranflucent and fetni' tranfparent, but always approaches more to the firft- Hard, but in a lower degree than chalcedony. Not particularly difficultly frangible. Not particularly heavy. Specific gravity 3>2jO. Chemical Characters. Before the blow pipe it lofes its colour and traflf* parency, and is infufible without addition. Constituent Parts.
