( ) SEVENTH SPECIES,' Melanitc. Melanit.—Werner. Black garnet of mineralogifts. External CkaraBers. Its colour is velvet black, which fotnetimes incline* to gteyilh black. It occurs cryftallized *, probably alfo in grains. Its cryftalline figure is a fix-fided prifin, flatly ac uminated by three planes, which are placed on the ’flternate lateral edges ; and the edges arc more or le fs truncated. It is all around cryftallizfd, and confequenlly has been formed imbedded. Its cryftals are middle fized and fmall. . Externally it is always fmooth, and fhining, which I°nietimes approaches to fplendent. Internally it is fritting, inclining tp gliflning. Fratture
