Marggraf, and other chemifis, have proved that lapis laxu.ll contains no copper at all. It is fometimes melted oh ac count of the filver it contains. The particles of marcafite in it indicate fome martial or irony paits, and the blue colour, toge ther with its Handing the fire, depends upon the metallic parts. The Hungarian gang-works, in the new mine of St. Antonio di Padua, near Hoderitch, are fometimes full of fine blue fpecks, which indicate that there is a good deal of filver in it. The Hone itfelf is certainly a compounded one ; it is generally calca reous, and fometimes particles of quartz are mixed in it. The zeolites appear to be more limple; and, in regard to their exterior marks, have no correfpondence with the lapis lazuli; the zeolites themfelves are as yet very little known : however, our author has placed thefe two kinds of Hone under the fame genus, becaufe fire has the fame effect on them both. §. in.
