In the second chapter of this treatise, I have given an historic sketch of the ancient theories of the for mation of veins, without adverting to the objections which might be brought against them ; conceiving that they would fall of themselves, and be complete ly refuted by the exposition and proofs of my new theory, as well as by my answers to the objections which have been, or may be, urged against it: in this way I have avoided much delay.
