' Argill combined with the Phofphoric Acid, Phofpholite. The ftones, commonly called Valentin gar net s, are iufpefted by Mr. Prouft to be of this fpecies. I have l'een no defcription of them; they may be the garnets of Spain, mentioned in r Raab’s Ca- talogue, p. 155. Thefe are of the colour of Hyacinth, tranfparent, and of a dodecaedral figure; expofed to the blowpipe they burft; but in a moderate heat they fwell like borax, vvhiten, and become fo light.as to fwim on water, after which they are difHcultly fufible. 1 Ann.
