Its lustre is-adaman- The fracture is fine and small-gramed uneven, which passes on the one side into foliated, on the other into earthy. The fragments are indeterminate angular, and rather blunt-edged. It is opaque. It is soft and very soft, verging on friable. It is rather brittle. It is easily frangible. It is heavy. Specific gravity, 4.3711, Brisson. - Chemical Characters. Before the blowpipe, on charcoal, it is easily reduced, hut is also volatilised if the heat be continued.
