Its most common colour is dark steel-grey, but which sometimes, in those varieties that approach to red iron stone, falls into brownish-red. It seldom (and almost only in the crystallised varieties) passes into iron-black. It occurs very frequently tarnished on the external sur face, or on that of the distinct concretions. The tarnish is either that of tcmpered-steel, or is pavonine or colum bine. It
