It is glistening. The cross fracture is coarse-grained uneven ; the lon gitudinal fracture is generally slaty. The fragments are sometimes indeterminate angular/ sometimes rather blunt-edged. It is semi-hard , it is the hardest subspecies of coal. It is rather brittle. It is rather easily frangible. It is light, passing into not particularly heavy. Geognostic Situation. It is found in the coal formation. Geographic Situation. It occurs in coahvorks in the neighbourhood of Dres den ; also near Ilorzowitz in Bohemia ; near Sabrze ini dipper Silesia; and Amberg in the Upper Palatinate. I3b3 Observation**
