It occurs crystallised, in rather long equiangular six- sided prisms, which are sometimes rounded. Internally it is shining. The fracture is small and fine-grained uneven. The fragments are indeterminate angular, and rather sharp-edged. It occurs in distinct concretions, which are thin and thick columnar; sometimes wedge-shaped, and scopi- fornily aggregated. It is strongly translucent, passing into transparent. It is semi-hard ; harder than calcareous-spar. It is rather brittle. It is easily frangible. It is not particularly heavy.
