This is a book which ought to be in the library of every scientific man."—Literary Gazette, Feb. 19,1859 TAYLOR & FRANCIS, Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, London. Shortly will be published, in one large closely printed volume with Forty Plates, Price, to Subscribers, Thirty Shillings, payable on delivery. THE FOURTH EDITION OF PRITCHARD’S HISTOKY OF INFUSOEIA, LIVING AND FOSSIL. In preparing a new edition of the'above Work, the Author is desirous to afford a complete and succinct account of the multitude of microscopic beings grouped together by Ehrenberg under the name Ir>Jusoria, and to represent impartially the numerous discoveries and opinions of British, American, and Continental naturalists. With this end in view, he has found it necessary to remodel and revise the entire work, and to make such additions (including descriptions of new species, British and Foreign) as will double the matter contained in the volume of 1852. To complete a task so extensive and laborious, he has found it necessary to s^ek the assistance of Naturalists eminent on this subject, and has accordingly secured the co-operation of Dr. Arlidge, to prepare the general history of the Bacillaria, Phytozoa, Protozoa, Rotatoria, and Tardigrada; —of Mr. Ralfs, to re-arrange the descriptions of those beautiful organisms the Desmidieae and Diatomea and of Professor Williamson, to revise and extend the history of those highly organised and interesting animalcules, the Rotatoria and Tardigrada. _ New Plates will be added to illustrate the latest results of modern research; those on the Diatomeae Mr. Tuffen West has engaged to draw and engrave. It is confidently believed the Fourth Edition will fully sustain the reputation’of every previous one, and form a Manual alike useful to the Naturalist, the Geologist, and the Microscopic Ob server. The Manuscripts of Dr. Arlidge and Professor Williamson have been received — that of Mr. Ralfs is expected shortly. 704 pages of the Work are printed, and 34 Plates engraved.— All communication are requested to be addressed to Andrew Pritchard.
